Hanne-Lise Enghoff grew up as an only child in Frederikshavn. She spent long hours looking at the world outside and the people, the animals, the plants and children playing. And to get a grip on reality she drew what she saw.
Later on a young Japanese man she met on a train offered her a set of linoleum cutting knives and she was swallowed up in this wonder of being able to print several prints of the same motive and make more people happy.
A well known sculptor visited the high school when she had left and invited her to his studio in Copenhagen and offered to teach her, and even had a room she could stay in. Her parents didn't approve so she continued her studies at university.
She had worked summers with the Railway office and this offered a possibility for her to go to
Paris and work in their office there during the summer of 1975. She found an art course (aquatint etching and printing) and fell in love with the alchemy of etching and the teacher, so she stayed for 3 years.
In 1978 she came back to Denmark with their baby and a terribly heavy printing press and moved into a so-called ghetto outside Copenhagen. The people there were from many nations and there was a freedom that ressembled the Paris she left.
One day she saw an add in the paper about an Italian Master of the technique of making leather masks and leather sculptures, so signed up for that and spent many years making masks for dancers, actors, musicians and people who worked with their mental growth.
Now she's painting in acrylic and mixed media and making collages. Big formats down to very small ones.
The motivation is still curiosity about people and their interactions and nature and the way we treat it. She wants to express hope for the future, even when working abstract. It's all about connections, balance and contrast.

Hanne-Lise Enghoff voksede op som enebarn i Frederikshavn. Hun sad i timevis og kiggede ud ad vinduet på verden udenfor og mennesker, dyr, planter og de legende børn. Og for at få hold på virkeligheden, tegnede hun hvad hun så.
Senere forærede en ung japansk mand, hun mødte på et tog, hende et sæt linoleumsknive, og hun blev opslugt af miraklet at kunne trykke flere aftryk af det samme motiv og gøre flere glade. En kendt billedhugger besøgte hendes gymnasium efter at hun var færdig der, og gav besked om, at hun skulle komme til hans atelier i København, og tilbød at undervise hende og havde også et værelse, hun kunne bo i. Hendes forældre brød sig ikke om ideen, så hun fortsatte sine universitetsstudier.
Om somrene havde hun arbejdet for DSB og det gav hende mulighed for at rejse til Paris til et feriejob i deres rejsebureau i sommeren 1975. Hun fandt et kunstkursus ( akvatinte ætsning og tryk) og forelskede sig i ætsningens alkymi og læreren, så hun blev i 3 år.
I 1978 kom hun hjem til Danmark med deres baby og en skrækkelig tung trykpresse og flyttede ind i en ghetto udenfor København. Folk var fra mange nationaliteter og der var en frihed, som mindede om det Paris, hun havde forladt.
En dag så hun en annonce i avisen om en italiensk mester i lædermasketeknik, som kom til København for at give kursus i masker og læderskulpturer, så hun meldte sig til og brugte mange år på at lave masker til dansere, skuespillere og og mennesker, der arbejdede med personlig vækst.
Nu er hun tilbage ved maleriet og arbejder i acryl, mixed media og collage. Fra store formater til meget små.
Motivationen er stadig nysgerrighed omkring mennesker og deres forbindelser og naturen og hvordan vi behandler den. Hun ønsker at udtrykke håb for fremtiden, selv i sine abstrakte arbejder.
Det handler altsammen om forbindelser, balance og kontrast.
